Slowly but steadily, MARDAANI is finding its well-deserved audience with some good escalation in collections over the weekend. Though the Rani Mukerji starrer did start slow, audience appreciation has ensured that good momentum has been gained, something that has defied the myth that women-centric films do not do well.

No wonder, while Rani Mukerji is battling it out with the evil of sex trafficking, Bipasha Basu too is gearing up for her central lead affair CREATURE 3D where she is busy fighting off a never seen before evil in the form of a deadly creature.

''I have a heroine who takes on the baap of all villains,'' quips Vikram Bhatt, the film's director, who has made a few women-centric horror films in the form of RAAZ and 1920, ''The villain in my film is deadly enough to scare anyone and here Bipasha is fighting it off. Yeh woh mogambo hai jo kabhi khush nahi ho sakta!''

While for makers and the actresses, it is a creative call being taken to do something different, how much of a business preposition is it to sell a film entirely on the name of a heroine and expect returns from the audience?

Says Girish Wankhede, Head Marketing, PVR Pictures, ''This isn't an entirely new phenomenon. Even in the past there have been films where a woman was integral. In the era of Hema Malini (SEETA AUR GEETA), Sridevi (CHALBAAZ) and Madhuri Dixit (BETA), there used to be at least one film or more every year which used to be a hit due to a female protagonist in there. Now in the new era, films like QUEEN show that actresses can drive a film if backed by great production house, good marketing and strong content. MARDAANI has been showing some strength and CREATURE should follow suit too.''

With MARY KOM (Priyanka Chopra), FINDING FANNY (Deepika Padukone) and KHOOBSURAT (Sonam Kapoor) arriving in quick succession as well, Bollywood could well be witnessing some women-power packed times soon.
