It's raining awards for Deepika Padukone in PIKU

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone bagged two awards at the ‘Big Star Entertainment Awards' function (first of the season), which was held on Sunday in Mumbai. She was awarded for her performance in the blockbuster hit PIKU – for Best Actress of the Year and Most Entertaining Actress in a Drama Role.


The film which released in the first half of the year is continuing to bring the actress immense appreciation towards the end of the year too. It bagged six awards in the following categories:

1. Best Actor of the Year- Amitabh Bachchan
2. Best Actress of the Year- Deepika Padukone
3. Most Entertaining Actor in a Drama Role- Amitabh Bachchan
4. Most Entertaining Actress in a Drama Role- Deepika Padukone
5. Most Entertaining Drama Film
6. Big Star Nayee Soch Film of the Year

PIKU, a co-production of MSM Motion Pictures, Saraswati Entertainment and Rising Sun Films, which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2015 and has been critically acclaimed globally, was directed by Shoojit Sircar and top lined by actors Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. The film, distributed worldwide by Yash Raj Films, has been on a winning spree since August this year, having already bagged top honours at the Indian Film Festivals of Australia, Russia and Japan.

On the occasion, Shoojit Sircar said, 'PIKU has been a true labour of love for all of us. We are gratified by all the honours coming our way. None of us had imagined that this quirky tale of a father-daughter relationship will be able to garner such love globally. We would like to thank the ‘Big Star Entertainment Awards' for bestowing us with six awards and Team PIKU for all the hard work in making the film so memorable for us.”

PIKU's producer Sneha Rajani also added, “PIKU has been an exhilarating journey for all of us. The fact that it turned out to be such a critical and commercial success, reinforces the fact that content is the king. We are thankful to Mr. Bachchan, Deepika and Irrfan for giving us such memorable performances and to Shoojit Da and writer Juhi Chaturvedi for bringing alive the world of PIKU.”

We guess it's raining awards for PIKU, and especially for Deepika Padukone!
