Bollywood films being inspired from the famous plays or filmmakers adapting them into movies or theatre artists turning to films is not a new trend. It has been successfully done in the past. Films like OMG! OH MY GOD, OMKARA, ALL THE BEST and others have been given thumbs up from the B-town. And now yet another well-known theatre personality, Sameer Iqbal Patel is set to make his foray into Bollywood with upcoming film HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL.

Sameer, who started his career with modelling for various brands, did TV shows, written & directed a dozen commercial plays like ‘Jo Khaya So Pachchtaye, ‘Hawa Hawai', ‘3 Flights Down', ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat', etc, has just completed his directorial debut HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL produced by Mohammed Aslam Shaikh and Madhire Ravinder Reddy under the banner Umbrella Film Corporation and Madhire Film Corporation.  “It's a natural transition of course. Cinema is a worldwide phenomenon. Hindi films have a great reach. I always wanted to do movies as cinema is director's medium, while theatre is actor's medium,” says Sameer.

HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL is an adaption from one of his theatre plays ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat', which is slated to release in early 2016. Quiz him why he went for this particular Play and he says, “There was a huge demand of this Play. Mohammed Aslam, one of the producers of the film, was so impressed with it that he watched it for five times and wanted to convert it into a film. Earlier on, I wanted to start with a film called TATA GOODBYE, a black-comedy, which is an original script. But as Mohammed expressed his desire for ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat', I started with that. Now TATA GOODBYE would be my second outing.”

But why Sameer thought of changing the name from ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat' to HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL? “Yes, we changed the name. There was English version of the Play with the name LIFE'S BEAUTIFOOL. I was looking at the international so I decided for HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL. ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat' sounds very theatrical. We have also changed the script and have done lot of work on the script to suit the film. Though ‘Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalaat' is a catchy name, HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL is a witty and tricky name. The story revolves around a hotel called ‘Beautifool', situated in Goa. It's one day story, very fast paced. HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL is funny and a situational comedy with 2 hour 10 minutes length,” says Sameer.

Now that he has worked in both the mediums, differentiating movies from theatre, Sameer speaks, “Definitely cinema is very demanding. It's not one man show. In theatre, I used to do multitasking. Here you can't handle all by yourself. It's more of a team work. A director's job is not just to direct the film. He has to co-ordinate, manage and get maximum work done. He has to deal with actors, producers. Make sure the film is complete and released on time, which is not easy. And now once the film is ready, one has to do extensive marketing. In theatre you have to do the scripting, tour at various places and perform. Cinema just doesn't work that way.”

Talking about the success of OMG! OH MY GOD, which was also adapted from a Play, Sameer on a concluding note says, “I know Umesh Shukla ji (director), Paresh bhai and the whole team. They did a fantastic job. They were successful because they could retain the essence of the Play in the movie as well. And now with HOTEL BEAUTIFOOL we know we have a winner in hand. I am sure the audiences would love it. I have watched the rough cut of the film. I am sure audience will like it.”
