This week witnessed the release of one of the biggest ventures of 2016, YRF's Aditya Chopra directed Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor starrer, BEFIKRE.

Coming in the wake of Aditya's all-time blockbuster and super-hits like DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYEINGE, MOHABBATEIN and RAB NE BANA DI JODI, it was obvious that BEFIKRE will put up a good show, and it did.

As per the inputs, BEFIKRE saw a 50 percent start on an average at good multiplexes and picked up further during the latter shows. Using the same strategy as DEAR ZINDAGI, the film once again is multiplex heavy, and has seen a limited (1700 screens) release. BEFIKRE has not been widely released at single screen cinemas.

With a major portion of the investment already recovered (for the makers) via non-theatrical rights, the box-office success of the film will now depend upon the theatrical run, and there are bright chances that it will, given the thumbs up from the target audience, the city based youth and in particular Gen X. As per rough early estimates, the first day is likely to be in the 9-10 crore range.

Meanwhile, last week's Vidya Balan's KAHAANI 2: DURGA RANI SINGH could not hold well during the weekdays and ended netting 25 crore (to be validated) during the opening week from India, and to be considered a success it has to show strong legs during the second week.

Concluding with Gauri Shinde directed Shah Rukh Khan (extended cameo) and Alia Bhatt starrer, DEAR ZINDAGI, the film held decently during the second week and has netted 62 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India and is an above average fare, as of now, and with some luck may touch the semi-hit status. DEAR ZINDAGI continues its good overseas run grossing $6.5 m at the end of the second week.
