Maker of JAANE BHI DO YAARON Kundan Shah passes away

Director Kundan Shah, who is well remembered for his cult classic satirical comedy JAANE BHI DO YAARON, as per the reports passed away this Saturday morning due to heart attack at his home. He was 69.


Kundan studied direction at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and made a wonderful film like JAANE BHI DO YAARON, which is till date cherished. Though the film was not a success at box office, Kundan won the National Award - Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for the same.

Kundan also directed popular TV series ‘Nukkad' (1986), in 1988 he directed the sitcom ‘Wagle Ki Duniya', based on cartoonist R K Laxman's character, common man. He made comeback in Bollywood with Shah Rukh Khan starrer KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA. His yet another film KYA KEHNA starring Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachur Singh was also a hit. However post that the films he directed weren't commercial success for e.g DIL HAI TUMHARA (2002). His last film ‘P se PM Tak' released in 2014.
