Yuva, Bombay, Roja, Mani Ratnam, editorial Send to Friend

A master at his art, he excels above his contemporaries. Some of the best films have come under his banner (Madras Talkies). Although mainly in South -India, the dubbed versions too have left their impact on Hindi speaking audiences. Mani Ratnam's "Yuva" is a far cry from films like Roja and Bombay. The title becomes symbolic of the youth today. However, circumstances bind three youths together who are extreme opposites. We are introduced to Lallan (The very dashing Abhishek Bachchan). He fringes on the borders of society. His motto in life is "I, me myself". His nonchalant attitude often sees him in trouble with the law. Living solely for himself, he thinks he owes nothing to anyone. Rani Mukherjee plays his ladylove in the film. Looks like she can tame the shrew.

Meet Michael (played by the very versatile Ajay Devgan). His motto in life is" my conscience is my voice". A well-educated PhD Student, he believes that the youth of today should participate in socio-political activities and make a difference to our country. Ajay Devgan is paired opposite Esha Deol. She seems to further his cause and belief.

And we're finally introduced to Arjun (Vivek Oberoi). He is the cool dude, a person who hops, skips and jumps through life. His motto in life is "I am the best". Cast opposite the volatile Kareena Kapoor, this pair seems to have lots of chemistry.

The promos say it all! However, these three youths are in for a surprise! An accident at the second Hoogly Bridge leaves them shocked! Life, takes a U-Turn, and perspectives start changing. Portraying the changing life styles of these three individuals and the life their share with their family, Yuva is the second Hindi film directed by Mani Ratnam. So impressed is Mani with Esha, that she Starrs in the Tamil Version titled "Ayutha Ezhuthu". The music has been composed by the Music genius himself- A.R. Rehman. Mehboob Has composed the lyrics of the film that are as refreshing as the beats and rhythm of the music. Sonu Sood of Shaheed Bhagat Singh fame plays a negative character in the film. He is cast as Abhishek's brother.

Talking about their characters, Ajay Devgan in an interview confesses" I play a strong, energetic character who thinks he can bring a change in society. He thinks he can get rid of the rubbish in our political system. He is an intellectual rebel. I love my role! It's the story of three young people: Abhishek [Bachchan] and Vivek [Oberoi] and me, and how our lives get influenced by each other". This one is eagerly awaited, especially by the "Yuva" of today.
