This is a launch vehicle for Kumar Taurani's son Girish Kumar Taurani. And what better way than to go the traditional way.

By traditional I mean, a love story with all the ingredients that go to make it snappy, soppy, and action oriented.

Kumar Gaurav, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, to name a few, all took this route. The formula is simple. Boy meets girl. Boy is rich but in love, his parents are aghast that something like this can happen. Girl is insulted. Enough ammunition for the movie to move forward.

Raghuvir (Sonu Sood) has singlehandedly brought up his sister Sona (Shruti Haasan). Their father had turned his back on them, while his mother dies of shock and humiliation. Raghu is a simple hard-working farmer who wants to give the world to his sister.

She has a friend, who is like a sister to him. She comes from an affluent family. Sona stays for over a week in their house since she is getting married. Visiting her 'sister' is her cousin from Australia Ram (Girish). The two fall in love. But when his mother realizes this, she sends Ram on an errand and finds a way to humiliate Sona. Raghu walks in at that precise moment and he too is humiliated.

CHECK OUT: Shruti Haasan - I deeply admire and respect Prabhudheva

Ram understands what his mother has done and instead of taking the flight back to Australia, he hoodwinks his mother at Singapore and returns to India in search of Sona. To win her hand, Raghu puts him through the grind in the fields... literally.

Raghu realizes that Ram indeed loves Sona. But will the lovers unite? Will Ram manage to reap more harvest than Raghu (as is the bet) to marry Sona?

Prabhudheva moves on from fast-paced action films (WANTED and ROWDY RATHORE) to a simple love story. The movie is honest and so are the performances. 'Jeene laga' is a track that is beautifully used throughout the movie

Girish is a confident lad who delivers in style. A few more films and this guy will be ready to rock and roll. There's sincerity in his approach. But for a few scenes in the beginning, he is well adept with the craft of giving a fluent take without being self-conscious.

Sonu Sood as the elder brother, as expected is good. Nassar, in a completely different role, surprises with his versatility. This guy can also do buffoonery. Brilliant. Shruti Haasan as the girl in love and in awe of her brother displays the right shades of emotion, keeping herself back in key moments, not making this an over-the-top romance.

CHECK OUT: RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA - Prabhudheva redirects his debut directorial film

Full marks to director Prabhudheva for keeping the youngsters in check and giving the movie the precise dose of love, emotion, action and dance. He does not even overstay the time limit. And that is another huge plus that will work in favour of the film.

RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA will make you laugh, cry and fight with the heroes.

Go for it.
