Music Review: JAB HARRY MET SEJAL – The Music of is a complete album in itself

SRK banner Red Chillies Entertainments' JAB HARRY MET SEJAL is certainly one of the most anticipated films of the second half of the year. And expectations are gargantuan from the ever reliable numero-uno, composer-lyricist duo, Pritam and Irshad, to deliver some memorable scores, especially as the director concerned is Imtiaz Ali, whose films have always contained music par excellence! JAB WE MET, LOVE AAJ KAL, ROCKSTAR, HIGHWAY etc!

This is one 'Radha' song that will certainly rule the hearts and charts for quite a while. The extremely rhythmic and foot tapping, easy on the lips folk inspired tune makes this number a chartbuster. Shahid Mallya modulates his vocals well with full support from Sunidhi Chauhan, both rendering the number with ease and elan. Irshad's lyrics are icing on the cake, though at times the Punjabi lyrics are a bit difficult to comprehend, yet the tune and arrangements and SRK's charming presence overpowers all.

Pritam shows us why he was and still is the numero-uno composer (choice of top notch directors and producers) with 'Safar', a simply superb soft rock based number that introduces and characterises the male lead, Harry (SRK) who happens to be a guide in Europe. Irshad Kamil does a mindblasting job with words that are tailor made (for a tour guide)- 'Idhar ka hi hoon na, Na udher ka raha, Safar ka hi tha main, Safar ka raha'. Arijit seals this one with a 'straight from the heart' rendition with superb back up croonings and alaaps by Pritam. Excellent!

From one excellent number to another, 'Hawayein' is a lovely, melodious romantic interlude with a dew fresh tune and lively arrangements, and yet again Arijit aces this one with effortless ease and a rendition that charms. Irshad's lyrics are classy and very apt as the protagonists are on a journey, thrown in together, due to circumstances.

'Butterfly' is truly Imtiaz Ali trademark track, traditional Punjabi folk inspired, bhangra et al, lively , playful, chhed-chaad number rendered with zest and enthu by Aman Trikha, Dev Negi and Sundhi Chauhan with the Nooran sisters doing a superb back up support job.

The party number, 'Beech Beech Mein' makes one want to put on the dancing shoes such is the rhythmic, foot tapping tune and superb arrangements that are tailor orchestrated to dancing. In fact it takes one back to 'It's the Time to Disco' days of SRK! Arijit once again holds fort with great support from Shalmali Kholgade and Shefali Alvares.

To conclude, it's been quite a lacklustre year so far with not just films performing below expectations but even the musical scores of highly anticipated films like KAABIL, TUBELIGHT and even SRK's very own RAEES etc, not really making their presence felt. Therefore, Imtiaz-Pritam-Irshad's JAB HARRY MET SEJAL appears to be a 'mannah' from the heaven, a complete album in itself, entertaining, classy-cum-massy with some memorable songs like 'Radha', 'Safar', 'Hawayein' and 'Beech Beech Mein' which happen to be our favourite(s). The music should certainly help the cause of the love story, which releases all over this Friday.
