There are always humongous expectations from the audio of any Yash Raj Film's venture, but when it's the man himself, Aditya Chopra, wielding the directorial baton (making a comeback of sorts after a prolonged hiatus), hopes soar sky high! Reason? Well, the names of his last three super-duper musical hit films, DILWALE DULHANI LE JAYEINGE, MOHAABATEIN and RAB NE BANA DI JODI, say it all. So with bated breat, let's check out his next, BEFIKRE,

The song that has already made a mark especially with the gen X, 'Nashe Si Chad Gayi' and the moment one listens to it, it is obvious!! The Arjit Singh rendered song sets the carefree mood flowing with its absolutely delightful fresh as a lark addictive tune and lovely European (French!) musical settings that infuses seamlessly with Hindustani.

The title song, 'Ude Dil Befikre' once again encases the free spirited, carefree and daring spirit of the leads rendered well by Benny Dayal. Although the tune that V-S choose and arrangements are reminiscent of quite a few songs with the feel of Arabian music that reminds one of the lovely songs from Aamir Khan's MANN ('Kaali Nagin Ke Jaisi') which itself was inspired from an Algerian song.

R.D Burman experimented with European (Italian) music long back with the evergreen love ballad, 'Do Lafzon Ki' (THE GREAT GAMBLER). The next song, 'Je Taime' starts off with an engaging conversation between the two lead protagonists Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor swearing never to say the three words, I Love You and elaborating the terrible side effects of falling in love. The cool mix of French dance music and Indian does give it that unique touch but the tune is repetitive reminding of Rahman's 'Ke Sara Sara, Jo Bhi Ho So Ho' (PUKAR) in parts. Vishal renders it with feelings and Sunidhi is good, as always.

The companionship and camaraderie between the leads is conveyed well through the next song, 'You And Me', a light, frothy number that brings back memories of SALAAM NAMSTEY (V-S and Jaideep) music. Nikhil D'Souza and Rachel Verghese render the number well.

It's a retro sixties feel, a cool mix of blues and Salsa that is the highlight of 'Ishq Labon Ka Karobaar'. Once again the tune has that heard before feel and V-S try to camouflage with the arrangements. Papon performs ably but does not rise above the track, as is expected from him and his diction a turn off.

A quintessential Punjabi pop 'bhangra' robust, full of energy dance and celebration number, the classic sort that one encounters in Yash Raj Films is 'Khulke Dulke'. Rendered by Gippy Grewal with able support from Harshdeep Kaur, the song registers its presence well.

'Love Is A Dare' Instrumental is nice musical fusion of all the songs from the album, a sort of a mashup.

Concluding, one must say that the audio of YRF's BEFIKRE is quite apt - Racy, thumpy, trendy- as the Gen X prefers it, and given what we have seen from the promos of the film, one can't help but agree to an extent with what is on offer. Having said that, given the musical track record of YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra's iconic films, we obviously mean DDLJ, MOHAABATEIN and RNBDJ, the audio of BEFIKRE is not up to the high standards set by the mentioned names and that is the reason why we are deducting 1/2 stars, that we would have normally given to the same film with the same star cast for a normal banner and director. Our picks- 'Nashe Si Chad Gayi', 'Je Taime' and 'Khulke Dulke'. The songs are sure to appeal to the target audience when the film releases all over this Friday.
