Close on the heels of his last creative production venture, WAZIR, Raj Kumar Hirani (this time with UTV Motion Pictures), comes up with SAALA KHADOOS a sports drama. Famous Tamil composer Santhosh helms the music with support from Hirani's tried and trusted lyricist, Swanand Kirkere. One expects good and quality music from this outing, the kind one encounters in Hirani's films.

The breezy title track, 'Saala Khadoos', acts as a nice introduction to the male protagonist with rockstar Vishal Dadlani putting in an emotive rendition. Lyrics sketch the fine characterization of a rebel ex boxing champion and provide a good insight into the film and role of the male lead.

Another track that acts as an introduction to the female (lead) protagonist is 'Jhalli Patakha', sung well by Sunidhi Chauhan (it's nice to hear Sunidhi after quite a while!), and just like the title track this song too gives a peak into the film.

'Dil Ye Ladaku' is a really different ('hat ke') romantic number sung sweetly by Monali Thakur, but not a kind that would attract universal attention due to its very hatke lyrics (which do suit the characters) and tune that may not find pan India appeal.

Vishal Dadlani (with support in chorus by Vijaynarain) comes back with another emotive rendition in the run of the mill motivational/inspirational composition, 'Jaaga Khunnas'. The rock tune and arrangements and even the background chorus are routine and not above the ordinary.

The somber and sad situational dramatic separation number 'Dhuaan Hai Dhuaan Zindagi' is sung well by Kalyani Nair with soft, minimal background arrangements. It is composed and sung more like a monologue with just a simple, plain tune.

Summing up, the audio of SAALA KHADOOS consists of situational songs which do fit in with the script, but they do not exactly leave any lasting impression, like other successful sports drama (CHAK DE INDIA, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG or even MARY KOM). The release of the film and then its content will then (hopefully) work towards making SAALA KHADOOS a success, when it releases all over 29th January.
