Pritish Nandy Communications PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS featuring the unusual pairing of Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat was a surprise success and its hit music (with the memorable 'Pyaar Karke Pachtaya') by the then numero-uno Pritam Chakraborty was an added bonus. So one looks forward to another chartbusting and entertaining musical delight by Pritam himself in the sequel titled SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS, this time starring another very hatke jodi, class actors Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar.

Even though the flagship song, 'Harry Is Not A Brahmachari', carries a heavy hangover of Pritam's own chartbusting 'Paisa Paisa' (DE DANA DAN) but very much like the former, the song is a chart scorcher! Superb rhythm, nice fusion of rap and Punjabi pop and extraordinary singing by Jazzy B and Ishq Bector along with hilarious lyrics are the highlights.

The second version, titled 'The Original Song' has been rendered by Divya Kumar aided by Jazzy B and Ishq Bector, and one prefers the first one for its slower R&B tempo. And then there is another version, the remix version by DJ Angel. We can only say, the more, the merrier!

The Hey Song 'I'm Sorry Par Humse Pyaar Ho Gaya Hai' is totally in Pritam's alley, a soft romantic ditty with nice beats, lovely harmonica and soft guitaring, but one must add here is that Pritam is capable of much better. Nikhil Paul George, Neeti Mohan and Mili Nair do well.

Or what was the need of the character played by Vir Das, which dragged the movie? In the end, it gets trapped into its own message of being honest with the partner when the final scene hits the screen.

Sid and Trisha have a simple plan for keeping the flame alive in their marriage. They try different methods, like meeting as strangers at parties, and with Sid always saying ''I am sorry,'' even when he is not at fault. All seems well with them till they realize that Trisha is pregnant. The arrival of the child throws life out of gear for the couple. Trisha is focused on Milli, while Sid tries his best to help out, but always falls short as Trisha finds fault in every action of his.

He goes to a common friend (Ram Kapoor) for advice. To all, Ram seems to be the perfect dad and the perfect husband. Sid wants to know the secret. It is this secret, when implemented, that will turn Sid and Trisha's life upside down.

Farhan Ahktar is moving from strength to strength as an actor and he does full justice to the role. Vidya Balan has carved a niche for herself as the 'Hero'. Although she tries her best to fit into this role, somehow, to me she seems uncomfortable. The lady needs to capitalize on her God-given talent to do challenging, women-centric roles.

But what was most heartening about the film was that Vidya and Farhan kept the screen alive for most part of the first half, without even a third actor on screen!

SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS started out with a lot of promise but like a talented cricketer, overburdened with sudden fame, soon died out.
