Remaking an iconic film like ZANJEER, which heralded the rise of the angry young man, Amitabh Bachchan, the mega star, is certainly a difficult feat to achieve. Even musically the film had super hit music by Kalyanji - Anandji and songs like ''Yaari Hai Imaan Mera'', ''Chakku Churiyaan'' etc are remembered till date. The makers of the remake have gone in for as many as three composers, Meet Bros, Chirantan Bhatt and Anand Raj Anand (guest composer) for the album, and all three need no introduction as they are all talented and have delivered some super hit music in the past. So let's check out what the trio have to offer here.

''Mumbai Ke Hero'' is more like a 'bhaigiri' number that befits films like SHOOTOUT etc and even Mika Singh renders the song in that mood and Talia Benson accompanies him with some over the top rap portions. Amitabh Bachchan's legendary dialogues from the original ZANJEER find place here and that is about the only USP of the Chirantan Bhatt composed Shabbir Ahmed written number.

Oft repeated tune is a big letdown for the highlight item number, ''Pinky'' picturised on the hot Priyanka Chopra, and rendered by Mamta Sharma. Meet Bros. Anjjan Ankit fail to utilize Mamta's potential and one expected something above the ordinary from them. Even the lyrics are tacky and routine.

CHECK OUT: Priyanka Chopra - Mary Kom film is not a biopic

Chirantan Bhatt's romantic compositions for Vikram Bhatt's HAUNTED are still popular, and so the next outing, ''Lamha Tera Mera'' promised lot but this turns out to be another routine love ballad. Fresh talent Wajhi Farooki's base vocals are pleasing to the ears and he does sound promising and Palak Muchal gives him adequate support.

Pran's legendary 'qawwaali' ''Yari Hai Imaan Mera'' from the original is definitely an impossible task to recreate, but Meet Bros. Anjjan Ankit come up with a very good, in fact, top notch composition, ''Khochey Pathan Ki Zubaan''. Of course aiding the number to a large extent are great singers like Sukhwinder Singh and Shadaab Sabri along with the composers who do a superb job in the all traditional 'qawwali'. Shabbir Ahmed does a good job and uses famous couplets (sher) like, ''Sab kuch khuda se maang liya tujhe mangne ke baad, Uthte nahin hai haath ab is dua ke baad,'' to a desired effect.

70's style cabaret dance number, ''Kaatilana'' inspired from ''Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo'' (JAANBAAZ) is rendered well by Shweta Pandit . The song is letdown by some very routine and oft repeated lyrics. Maybe it's picturisation on the hot Mahie Gill (probably) will make it more screen worthy.

The number appears as a remix version also and the effect is no better.

''Shakila Bano''
is a character driven song that etches out the character of the female lead, and guest composer, Anand Raj Anand, relies on typical 70s style retro music for this composition. Shreya Ghoshal does well in this all out 'masala' number and sings without inhibitions.

CHECK OUT: Priyanka Chopra happy to let her hair down in ZANJEER

The soundtrack of ZANJEER is just about average, and though the makers have gone in for three composers, the album is not up-to the mark. However since all the numbers are strictly situational and this is an action packed movie, the songs may well fit into the overall scheme of things. ''Lamha Tera Mera'' and ''Khochey Pathan Ki Zubaan'' are our picks and may even turn out to be popular, if the film is appreciated, when it releases all over on 6th September.
