SONALI CABLE is a well-intentioned film which has got entangled in its own mess. It's the story about Sonali (Rhea Chakravarty) who has a stake in the local broadband connection along with a politician. She's the 'go to' girl when internet connections fail. Along with her team, she gets the line started within a short period of time.

All is well until Shining Inc., a company which is having a stake in everything in the city, wants to enter the broadband sector. They buy out the local operators or force them out but when it comes to Sonali, they meet their match. However, they manage to wrest Sonali Cable (the name of her company) from her using unfair means.

In the ensuing fight, she loses Sadaa (Raghav Juyal) one of her workers and is also attacked. But gutsy lady that she is, she fights back to wrest back the initiative from Shining Inc.

Rhea puts up a spirited performance as the feisty local broadband operator who finds support in her partner's son, Raghav (Ali Fazal). But it is not enough as the film just chugs along without any intent.

Putting a lid on the proceeding is Anupam Kher as the boss of Shining Inc. His character as the tough businessman is more of a clown than anything else. That is the primary reason why this film falters. It's a pity, because just last week, he had a meaty role in EKKEES TOPPON KI SALAAMI. Here, he is just having fun, eating khakra and sipping expensive whiskey whilst bellowing at a firang hostess and pulling the ears of his manager. Still trying to figure what those scenes were all about. Moreover, I am still trying to figure out why that girl (who was serving him) was taking his bullshit!

Ali Fazal's role is non-intrusive; whether he is there or no makes no difference to the script.

For me, it is only Raghav Juyal who works. An actor to look out for, for his spontaneity and dance moves.

As a heroine-centric movie, SC had lots of potential but nowhere is there a plot in place. For her part, Rhea does well: as well as the script allows her to.

Just having a broadband connection is not good enough, you also need 24-connectivity for it to work!
