Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is known for his hatke selection of films. Where most of the actors are only focusing on the 100 crore mark achievement, Aamir is one actor who thinks otherwise.

On being the original 100 crore hero, (3 IDIOTS being the first film to touch that mark), when quizzed Aamir about where this trend is going now, he said, “It is a very unfortunate trend because the moment creative people start thinking of numbers, then that shadow of that number influences the kind of films they choose and pick.”
“And the moment I am staring to choose and pick films which only have the potential to do a 100 crore or more, then, my choice becomes very limited; I can only do an AVANGERS or a SPIDERMAN or that kind of a film which will go on to potentially do that kind of money and that really kills creativity to a very alarming extend”, added Aamir.

He also spoke about how & why does he selects his films, “I have always selected my films based on what I feel towards them. So a film like TAARE ZAMEEN PAR went on to do huge business but, on the face of it, at that time, I had no idea, so I selected it because I loved the story, I selected RANG DE BASANTI because I loved the story despite the fact that it was the fifth remake of Bhagat Singh and Azad. I did LAGAAN when the entire industry was thinking it’s a disaster. So all of these films, I have picked, SARFAROSH, these are films I have not looked at the box office when I am picking these films. I am picking these films because I have loved them. That they went on to do big box office business is great.”
“It actually shows us that the audience is changing, the audience wants different stuff and the audiences’ taste is broadening. What was earlier considered mainstream today is actually now not mainstream. And the fact of the matter is that we are in a business of telling stories so, just by definition of that, it’s like saying that what am I selling, I am selling chocolates, suppose my product is chocolates, I would want the chocolate to be of the same quality, identical each time, because you liked that chocolate and I was selling that to you, whereas, in movies I am selling you a story. If I had to sell you the same story each time, you don’t want to consume it because you have consumed it once, you want a different story, each time you want a new story, so films have to be new each time as opposed to identical each time, so I would prefer to break the formula than follow it.”
Now we know what makes you different, Aamir!
