Even though Abhay Deol agrees that DEV D is basically a romantic film, he also sends across a note that it marks a radical shift in film making.
"Yes, DEV D is yet again quirky, as have been most of my films", smiles Abhay, "Still, we are looking at a good mix of affairs because while we have adapted a novel for our film, we have presented it all in the way we wanted to make it."
"At the end of the day it is a romantic film", agrees Abhay, "It is a story about a quintessential lover boy. However, in terms of execution, there is a radical shift that Anurag (Kashyap) has brought about. This would reflect even in terms of performances in the film."

He and Anurag coming together sends an indication of merger of two similar sensibilities.
"Yes, moreover the best part is that the script too matched the sensibilities of both of us. Also, though it seems to some out there that I search for such scripts which are bona fide offbeat, that's not really the case. I never went around searching for such movies and rather they kept coming to me. But yes, now it is both ways. I constantly keep meeting people, reading such scripts. People too contact me and eventually I go with what best I find on my way. So you know, it?s a combination of both."
