It seems the age of singing female film stars is slowly but surely coming to Hindi cinema in a big way and the bandwagon is being led by two of the hottest stars on the horizon, Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor.

While for Alia Bhatt it was an encore of what she did in HIGHWAY, Shraddha Kapoor who had shown her vocal prowess in various shows initiated her singing career with EK VILLAIN. Both these attempts are a clear pointer to the fact that these new breed of actors are not dabbling into this genre as a one-off affair of crooning their own songs, but this is a genre that they would like to take it forward and would practice to perfection. Shraddha Kapoor did it with panache in EK VILLAIN while Alia Bhatt did it for the first time in HIGHWAY that too under the baton of Rahman underlining the fact that indeed her vocal prowess is worth watching out for. As a matter of fact the lullaby that Alia Bhatt sang in HIGHWAY is one of the best lullabies that have been sung by any established singing stars in the recent times.

While Shraddha Kapoor debuted with soulful rendition in EK VILLAIN, Alia Bhatt has crooned the soulful ‘Main Tenu Samjhawan’ in HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA, that was originally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, perhaps pointing out to the fact that she is another female Yo-Yo Honey Singh in the making.

For the present generation which is clamoring for a different sound, Shraddha Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's voices indeed are striking a chord. For the producer and director as well, it is a win-win situation as he or she does not have to bother about another singer to give the playback. Besides, when the actors are singing themselves, the lip-sync is taken care off in a rather accomplished manner. Would this turn out to be a commercially win-win situation for these two stars eventually, only time would tell, but right now they indeed have been able to provide a different flavor to female playback singing in Hindi cinema.

The purists may claim that these debuts of actors as singers may not have been possible, but for the advent of various technological marvels that have the ability to weed out the aberrations in rendition of a song, matter of fact is that for the fan out there, their heart throbs and their idols singing the song is indeed an icing on the cake for them and purists be damned.
