For the "Sabab - The Reason To Be" crew, the female singer had to be Asha Bhonsle and no one else. So they waited.

They had to wait for the noted Bollywood singer to return home from her Dubai trip. But the wait was worth the result.

Noted lyricist Gulzar, who penned the songs, film director Salim Arif and producer Tushar Khochar were all keen on recording with the voice of their favourite singer.

And their patience bore fruit with the rendition of some excellent songs at Spectral Harmony, a recording studio, in Andheri.

Asha sang a memorable number with Daboo Malik as the music director: 'Ek raat chalo taamir karein, khamoshi ke sang-e-marmar par'.

The singer was visibly emotional once the final take was over. After listening to the song, she congratulated Gulzar, Arif and Khochar.

Asha noted she has rendered her voice to such a nice and touchy song after a long time. The song, she said, made her remember the music track and lyrics of the historical epic, "Mughal-e-Aazam".

Daboo's father, veteran music director Sardar Malik, was also full of praises for the songs.

"Sabab - The Reason To Be" is Arif's debut film, a renowned and brilliant drama personality. He has directed acclaimed plays like, "Tajmahal Ka Tender" (a satire on the current system), "Kharashein" (on the scars inflicted by communal disharmony), "Ghalibnama" (on the letters and ghazals of Mirza Ghalib) and "Aapki Soniya".

Arif has earlier worked as an associate director to Gulzar during the making of "Machis" and "Hu-Tu-Tu" and Khalid Mohhamed's "Fiza".

"Sabab - The Reason To Be" is reportedly a high-voltage suspense thriller and boasts of one of finest screen team to support the venture.

It stars Mahima Chaudhary, newcomer Karan Khanna, Riya Sen, Gia (model-turned-actress from Pakistan), Anjan Shrivastava and Rahul Dev. The script is by by Javed Siddiqui and cinematography by Hari Nair.
