The new release of the week, Vipul Shah’s Vidyut, Adah and Esha starrer, COMMANDO 2, managed a decent start of around 20 percent at the multiplexes and 40 percent at single screens, which, given the dull exam and competition season can be considered as a fair opening. Given the topical theme of black money and the improved collections during the latter shows, one wouldn’t be surprised if the Deven Bhojani directed venture, turns out to be another success for the COMMANDO franchise.
COMMANDO 2 and RANGOON
The other prominent release of the week, Arbaaz Khan’s JEENA ISI KA NAAM HAI, managed to find its fair share of admirers amongst the target audience, which loves vintage cinema.
Meanwhile, last week’s premier release,Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saif, Shahid and Kangana starrer, RANGOON, failed at the box-office netting just around 19-20 crore during the opening week from India. RANGOON has also disappointed in the overseas grossing just around $1.25 m during the same period.
Concluding with Subhash Kapoor’s Akshay Kumar starrer, JOLLY LLB 2, the film is now a good hit, netting around 110 crore (to be validated) from India and $5.25m (as we await the exact numbers) from the overseas and is a profitable venture for everyone associated with it.
