For beta Sunny's GHAYAL RETURNS, Dharmendra is showing an active interest in his development, so much so that he has kept himself actively involved in it right from the day one.
"He is 75 years old today and had retired 4 years ago after doing APNE and JOHNNY GADDAAR. However a couple of years ago he felt that it was high time he did something with his family of heroes. This is what led to the origin of YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA. With the film doing fabulously well early this year and the Deol family realising that masala films are back in vogue, there has been a renewed zeal in making films. Dharmendra has taken charge of the movie business all over again and is now back in all creative discussions around films being made by his sons," informs a close associate.

This has been evident in the making of GHAYAL RETURNS as well which is quite close to Dharmendra's heart.
Ashwini Chaudhary, the director of GHAYAL RETURNS, says, "I had the basic idea of how to take forward the story of GHAYAL and had presented it to Sunny. He really liked the story and so did Dharamji. We have been spending a lot of time together and collaborating on the film."
Ask him whether he is conscious about the fact that this being an all-Deol show, he may just get marginalized and he says, "There is no question of interference. For my film, I didn't want to be a driver of a car with people (read Deols) sitting at the back seat and telling me where to accelerate and when to apply brakes. This is the just the right kind of set up I could have asked for."
Well, given the fact that Abhinav Kashyap too thought the same when he had begun work on DABANGG (and later felt on the contrary), one hopes Deols give their director good enough breathing space here.
