Tell us a bit about your professional journey so far.
It has been quiet a fulfilling journey so far and interestingly, it’s more than 15 years and I still believe that it has just started. I barged into multiplex scene in 2005 when it was just at its inception. Cinemax was one of the fastest growing multiplex chains and I was at the helm of affairs in public relations. I plunged into marketing and distribution gradually in my decades experience in multiplex and had hands on almost everything under the sun in film exhibition. It was quiet natural for me to initiate a distribution company which compliments marketing and here it is, Entity One!
How did the idea of ‘Entity One’ come about?
During my tenure in multiplexes I have seen Marathi producers being exploited by several distributors and marketers. I hosted 5 Marathi film festivals during my tenure and had a sense of Marathi cinema. I wanted Marathi producers to be more updated and aware of release and marketing syndrome. So ‘Entity One’ became the aggregator for PVR Pictures to release Marathi films across Maharashtra. The other reason was to use the expertise in marketing and public relations to support independent cinema also being independent will give me more liberty to indulge in my inclinations like film festivals, writing columns, and hosting workshops.
Was it a natural progression to start ‘Entity One’ since you already had sufficient experience in distribution and marketing?
Yes it was. I had in the meanwhile zeroed down on certain brains who wanted to break free and work as independents. ‘Entity One’ is in fact the platform of various enterprising experts to work towards a common goal of marketing and respectfully releasing the film.
You have already released five films under ‘Entity One’ in a short span of time. How did you manage to do so?
The experience helps. I have a great team who works 24*7 to make this possible and as I’m out in open I have to prove my mettle.
What are your future projects?
LOVE EXCHANGE is one interesting Hindi romcom I’m quite optimistic about. Another interesting one starring Mugdha Godse is ISHQ NE KRAZY KIYA RE. Apart from that there are two Marathi films - THAN THAN GOPAL, GHANTA are also on the cards. Then there is one prestigious Hindi film called CHALK AND DUSTER starring Shabana Azmi, Richa Chadha, Juhi Chawla, Divya Dutta, Girish Karnad, Jackie Shroff. It’s based on current educational system and imparts great narrative and social message.
Are you still a part of PVR?
I’m the aggregator for Marathi releases.
Do you plan to direct a film one day?
Yes. Will take some more time. I’m still learning.
