FINDING FANNY director Homi Adajania is completely baffled with the sensibilities of Censor Board after the recent episode. A couple of weeks ago it was reported that CBFC had issued to Homi to discard a ‘vulgar’ line from the film where actress Deepika Padukone says, 'I’m a virgin'. However, it was allowed back later on.

When asked about hypocritical ways of Censor Board, Homi said, “It causes hindrance to the work. I have shot such beautiful aesthetic shots of Deepika Padukone’s back in this film. It’s a dim moonlight shot where she takes her shirt off. And they (censor board) said ‘you can’t show this’ to which I replied ‘Have you seen COCKTAIL?’ There are babes rolling in a bikini around a beach and Saif is using his hands to do some puppetry on their stomach. But it was passed without any hassles. How ridiculous is that?”

“While, here, they were against an aesthetic shot where two people are making love in a field. And I’m not even showing anything explicit. It’s a simple back shot from wide. But the censors were like beach pe bikini pehenta hai field pe kaise pehen sakta hai. Obviously they are way more fashion conscious than I am. They better understand what should be worn at which location. Initially they weren’t okay but they gave us an argument to pitch. They allowed us to pitch our case from what they wanted to do and what we finally came to. But I am amazed that one shot which is completely baffling that of Dimple’s butt isn’t cut off,” he added in same vein.

According to Homi, more than hypocrisy Censor Board lacks consistency in their decisions.

“There is hypocrisy but more than that it’s lack of consistency, which the censor board needs to figure out and the different ratings which they give. They shouldn’t just stick to U/A or A. If there is no consistency what is the guideline for a filmmaker to make a film. There should be some kind of qualification as to who is watching what film. You need to have right sensibility to watch a film like FINDING FANNY,” the director said.

Starring Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur, FINDING FANNY, a Fox-Star Studios Presentation and Illuminati Films Production, is all set to release on September 12, 2014.
