LIFE OF PI has turned out to be a surprise success of the year even as Bollywood was pining all its hopes on only five biggies this season - JAB TAK HAI JAAN, SON OF SARDAAR, TALAASH - THE ANSWER LIES WITHIN, KHILADI 786 and DABANGG 2. Even though three of these films have released and earned good moolah, the Irrfan Khan starrer has not just managed good critical acclaim for itself but also gained the kind of collections that no 'niche' film has managed before and that too when made in English language.

Obviously, Irrfan is happy with rewards coming his way with such films of his finding an audience in Indian market as well.
''I think it is also a sign of changing times. Because of all the social media coming in, if there is something extraordinary then it is being noticed. This is a very interesting time for the film industry. It is in a nourishing period and audience is eager and hungry to see original stories coming from our own country and finding an international visibility. They are lapping up everything which is good in the offering,'' says Irrfan.
CHECK OUT: Ang Lee's LIFE OF PI grosses Rs 32 crore in one week
This is something that he was promised by Ang Lee when he stepped into his film.
''Of course. See, even when there is Ang Lee, at the end of the day you also consider what you are supposed to do. If there is nothing challenging in there then you may do a film for the sake of it but never get the satisfaction of exploring the film together with its maker. You have to be on the same boat together. That's what you wish and desire and this film gave me that,'' he elaborates.
He would next be seen in SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER RETURNS which releases all over on 8th March.
