Though there were talks of Rani Mukherjee doing an item number in HOUSEFULL 2, it has turned out to be a hoax call.
"After the success of NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, rumours were flying thick that Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala were very keen to bring Rani on board for a specially designed item number in HOUSEFULL 2," informs a source, "It would have been special because in her decade long career so far, Rani has done only one item number for a film where she is not a lead actress. That was for 'Kaali Nagin' opposite Aamir Khan in MANN."
What would have made this item number further special is Rani being in the same film as Akshay. Though confirmation is yet awaited on whether Akshay and other boys (John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Shreyas Talpade) would feature in the item song, it seems like a tempting preposition, especially after 'Dhanno' (Jacqueline, Akshay, Arjun, Riteish).

"It would have been a casting coup, albeit for just a few minutes, had Akshay and Rani come together. Can you believe it that though Akshay has practically worked with actresses across generation, Rani is the only one who has never been paired opposite him," quips a prominent film-maker. Sajid Khan too doesn't help the cause by stating that no one has been finalised yet for the item number.

"What you are hearing is plain speculation," says Sajid from London where he is currently shooting the film, "This is a very big item number and I would be shooting it at Mumbai in the month of September."
Tell him about the rumours making the rounds around Rani being the chosen one and Sajid says, "I was myself very surprised to read that. We have neither approached nor finalised anyone. I don't have a wish-list either. How can I do that when I don?t have a recorded song?"
Looks like Akshay Kumar would have to wait for much longer before Rani Mukherji ends up sharing a frame with him on the big screen.
