Three out of the six films that she has done so far may have been with hubby Anurag Kashyap. However Kalki Koechlin says that till date, she is unaware about how the camp business works in Bollywood. Though she is trying to balance it all out by working with filmmakers as diverse as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Zoya Akhtar to Dibakar Banerjee, Kalki says that she has never put her head down and tried to make any calculative moves when it comes to picking and choosing projects that belong to friends or outsiders.
"I want to discover work on my own instead of ever being dependent on somebody," declares Kalki who would next be seen in SHANGHAI, "When someone talks to me about this entire camp business, I am like 'Okay, so what really is that?' See, I am an outsider in this industry and am so blissfully unaware of this entire camp thing. In fact that's the way I would want it to be which means to stay on to be happily clueless about the politics of Bollywood."

This also means that though she has worked with Anurag on films like DEV D, THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS and SHAITAN, she has also mixed it up with other filmmakers by doing MY FRIEND PINTO, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA and THE FILM EMOTIONAL ATYACHAR. In the times when so many actresses out there are surviving based on being attached to certain camps, doesn't she feel that it only helps to be attached to certain camps?
"I don't know whether it helps or not because it is most certainly not my interest area," Kalki makes a definitive statement here, "In fact would you believe it that Anurag doesn't even advise on the scripts that I choose or reject; all decisions are my own. My philosophy is simple; if I don't believe in a project but still go ahead and do it just because someone else decided it for me then eventually it would be only me who would suffer. I don't want any of that."
