The Indian dance and film festival was recently held in Norway from 7th -13th August. The festival was inaugurated by Norwegian Finance Minister Ms. Kristin Halvorsen, Bollywood star Harman Baweja and Mayor of LØrenskog Åge Tovan. Other guests from Bollywood were Samir Karnik, Dwij Yadav, Vikas Kapoor, Amul Vikas Mohan Sharma, Ketan Mehta, Madhur Bhandarkar.
The festival opened up with variety of dance shows and later followed with the screening of Bollywood films.
Bollywood Festival screened 33 films in 3 theatres in Oslo Cinemateket, Klingenberg kino and LØrenskog kino. Unreleased films like VAADA RAHA, RANG RASIYA and THE GREAT INDIAN BUTTERFLY were screened at the festival and received standing ovation from the public.
Apart from the screenings, the festival was flecked with many other enlivening shows viz...the opening show was hosted by Noman Mubashir, a very popular TV host and news anchor of Norway conducted shows & interviews with ease and won not only viewers appreciation but of the guests too present there. Independent dancers, a very talented group from U.K. and choreographer & actress Ms. Shalu gave some extra ordinary moves grooving the viewer's heart. Cleo & SiIlas alongwith famous belly dancer Jasmin stole the show by presenting Ballet and Bollywood, a new type of Indian dance for the very first time. Jonathan paid a tribute to the 'King of Pop' late Michael Jackson by performing on his numbers and received wide accolades. Norwegian Folk Dancer FRIKAR won many hearts including Hon. Finance minister Ms. Kristin Halvorsen.
Juggy D ? the British Bhangara singer, Avijeet Roy and the dance group set the stage on fire with various Hindi, Punjabi Bhangara numbers and a glittering fashion show choreographed by Monti in a Kick-off concert night, prior to the festival began.
After the screening of films SHOOT ON SIGHT & HEAVEN ON EARTH on domestic violence & terrorism, by Siraj Zaidi and many others from Norway and India, two big seminars were conducted.
Hon. First secretary Mr. R. K. Singh, Indian Embassy Oslo, graced the occasion and there was special screening of film FASHION and a fashion show at a prestigious Norsk Mote Forum. It was highly appreciated by our guests of honor of the evening filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Ketan Mehta.
The closing ceremony had a dance performance from workshop people and Bollywood Ballet, before director Ketan Mehta presented his film RANG RASIYA. Later A painting by Norwegian painter Dag Hol was unveiled by Oslo minister Erling Lae (Byrådsleder) and Madhur Bhandarkar. The painting was inspired from film Ketan Mehta's RANG RASIYA.
Bina Kotak, a Mumbai coordinator for the Bollywood Festival, thoroughly enjoyed the festival & her stay at Norway. Festival Director Mr. Nasrullah Qureshi and his wife Ms. Pritpal Qureshi took real pains to make the Festival as most Successful at the same time enjoyable for the esteemed Bollywood Guests.
After Shah Rukh's BAADSHAH, which was shot in the beautiful locales of Norway, Boney Kapoor's Harman Baweja & Genelia D'souza starrer ITS MY LIFE is the second film to be shot there.
