PARINEETA is set to revolutionize home entertainment in the country. The DVD of the classic from the Vidhu Vinod Chopra camp was unveiled by actor Saif Ali Khan. Says Saif Ali Khan, "The DVD with its brilliant features like the Director's Commentary showcases the growing consumer expectation. The packaging pertinently reflects the flavour of the film." The actor also reiterated his stand against piracy by stating its impact on the economy and its contribution to larger crimes.
The DVD from Excel Home Videos is packed with additional features, some of which have never been seen in the Indian market. Says M.N Kapasi, Managing Director, Excel Home Videos, "The DVD is the first in the country with DTS Sound, enabling high quality audio output on all kinds of systems creating a cinematic experience for viewers. It also has a Director's Commentary by Pradeep Sarkar (an option of an audio track of the Director running parallel with the film explaining the running scene), which is again a first in India".
Adds Vidhu Vinod Chopra, "This endeavor is an apt tribute to the classic tale, and with a presentation from Pradeep Sarkar on the light and shade treatment in movie making and an option for subtitles covering most major Indian languages and this is definitely a collectors edition for connoisseurs of quality cinema". The DVD has subtitles in 15 languages including English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Gujarati among others. The DVD also has the making of the movie and a teaser trailer of Munnabhai -2 in addition to a candid interview with Saif Ali Khan. It also has views from stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan on the classic.
PARINEETA, an adaptation from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Novel of the same name is a story of an orphan girl and her unspoken relationship with her rich childhood companion, which comes to the foreground on the arrival of an outsider into their lives. The movie has its setting in Calcutta of the 1960's and the recreation of the time has been carried out with astounding detailing. The movie directed by Pradeep Sarkar, a veteran with Ad films and Music Videos, has Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and newcomer Vidya Balan in the lead. The script of the movie was recently selected to be a permanent fixture at the Oscar Library.
