It is generally believed that Diwali, Eid and Christmas are the best period(s) to release a film, and there are enough examples supporting that. If we look at last year itself we have had EK THA TIGER (Eid), JAB TAK HAI JAAN and SON OF SARDAAR (Diwali), and not to forget the still counting DABANGG 2 (Christmas).

However, another occasion that is fast emerging (but still to be recognized!) is the Republic Day (26th January). The first major (recent) success that one can recall is Aamir Khan's iconic RANG DE BASANTI (2006). The next year though was a setback as the big multi-starrer, SALAAM-E-ISHQ proved to be a debacle.
Coming to 2008, SUNDAY turned out to be the first noticeable success for the Ajay-Shetty team. The Republic Day of 2009 continued the success story with Emraan Hashmi's RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES.
There was again a hiccup in 2010 as Salman Khan's VEER failed, more due to its high cost, but still proved to be big grosser in Salman's career (till that point of time).

Moving on, Aamir Khan returned during the Republic Day of 2011 with his low cost, offbeat cinema, DHOBI GHAT, and the film managed to score with the target niche audience. But the biggest success story was yet to come. And it was left to Hrithik Roshan's AGNEEPATH which turned out to be a super duper hit during last year's Republic Day week (2012).
Circa 2013, and it is becoming clearer by the day that Abbas-Mustan's Anil, Saif, John and Deepika starrer RACE 2, the follow up to the highly successful RACE, is all set to embark on a winning run when it releases on 25th January ( Republic Day week), and carry forward the success story of its predecessors!
