It appears ‘Acche Din Aagaye’ for Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor. With films like PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO, R... RAJKUMAR, HAIDER, SHAANDAR, FARZI it looks like the jinx of flop films is all set to break for Shahid Kapoor.
Ask Shahid if this is the most exciting phase of his career or he is in the happiest space right now and he expresses, “I feel really happy when people ask me that I am in a really happy phase of my career. I am in happy space in general. I am happy what happened with my last film and am very proud of having worked on HAIDER and having fun on SHAANDAR.”

Since Prabhu Dheva’s film brought a new lease of life to Shahid’s career, one wonders if doing a hardcore commercial film like R... RAJKUMAR was to strip off his baggage of flops and go in a reboot mode.

“HAIDER has stripped me off much than R... RAJKUMAR because it’s amazing and liberating when you go out there and shave your head to do four hours of work,” he quips and adds, “Yes going from a genre to another, from filmmaker like Prabhu Dheva to Vishal Bhardwaj, it definitely makes you understand that you’ve stepped ahead from one spectrum to another. It’s tiring, scary and liberating but I am up for anything now.”

But probe Shahid if R... RAJKUMAR worked because the audience wanted to see him as a bindass and lovable character and he admits, “May be. If there would’ve been an established action hero, RAJKUMAR would be more successful. If I do another film like R... RAJKUMAR, probably it will make more money or it might take things forward. I believe the film has opened a certain avenue and a genre which I never attempted before. And now I have to do more such films because when you do something for the first time or change your genre/character/role from romantic to action hero there’s always a question whether I will repeat it in future or not. And the next time you attempt it, people have already decided whether they have liked it or not. So it becomes easier. But if they reject, you know it’s going to be tougher.”

He adds further, “Having said that, an actor has to have borrowed dreams. He cannot have dreams of his own. He has to borrow the dreams of the filmmaker that he works with. It’s about participating in somebody else’s journey. So, whoever sells their dreams I will become part of it. I am here to do all kind of things. But I need to enter filmmakers’ space. It’s like child at candy store, who needs to be guided which is best for him. Similarly, for actors, whichever script or filmmaker connects the most become their journey for next few months.”

Shahid feels surprised to have done a film like HAIDER as he never in his wildest of dreams imagined of doing a film like this.

“Honestly, I never imagined that I’ll ever get a role like HAIDER. I never thought I will get an opportunity to go bald, hold a skull in a hand, get to play Hamlet, shoot an entire film in Kashmir, get to share the same frame with the likes of Irrfan, Tabu, Kay Kay. But that’s what an amazing part about being an actor. The most exciting thing is that filmmakers surprise you with how they view you. Different people want to see you in different ways which makes it an adventure because you don’t know what’s up next. Now, when I do films, I completely go with clean slate. However, there was a time when I used to plan my stuff. Now I go without any thought because that’s the journey of a filmmaker…Once my filmmaker starts downloading information on me then I start the process of understanding what I want to do,” he says.
Also starring Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon, HAIDER directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is all set to release on October 2, 2014.
