Mahesh Bhatt would feel a sense of accomplishment as now Vidhu Vinod Chopra joins his ilk in bringing the vignettes of his personal life on to the silver screen. Indeed, the subject matter of the next film, CHITHTHIYAN, that Vidhu Vinod Chopra is making a romantic triangle, which would seek inspiration from his personal life, i.e. the love story between himself and the late editor Renu Saluja who was instrumental in creating cult films like PARINDA, and all subsequent films till she was alive, and the affinity that she developed for Sudhir Mishra, whereby Vidhu Vinod Chopra walked away from her. But Vinod Chopra continued to help Renu Saluja when she was down with cancer, though they had been legally divorced. Indeed, there is lots of emotion in the story and with Vidhu Vinod Chopra being the master of capitalizing on the emotions, CHITHIYAAN indeed is going to be a film worth watching for.

As a matter of fact whenever filmmakers have delved into their personal lives, they have come out with stories of love triangle from their lives and Mahesh Bhatt had mastered the genre with ARTH. But how many of us would be aware about the fact that one of the most successful films in the career of Big B, who is going to celebrate his seventieth birthday, ABHIMAAN was an inspiration from the life of his voice, Kishore Kumar. ABHIMAAN drew inspiration from Kishore Kumar's first marriage with Ruma Ghosh, apart from seeking inspiration from personal and professional lives of Big B and Jaya Bachchan as well. One wonders whether this is the reason why the character played by Big B in ABHIMAAN was named Subir Kumar?
In the same manner when Guru Dutt made KAGAZ KE PHOOL, the critics of the time argue that it drew inspiration from the personal life of Guru Dutt who was torn between Geeta Dutt and Waheeda Rehman. The controversies of affair in the life of a film star also cast a net in the life of Big B as well. Yash Chopra had the guts to cast Big B, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha and it was one of the biggest casting coups of those times, and there was a lot of anticipation that it would reveal the so-called details of their personal lives, but it was not to be. The cinema still was not ready to wander into the realm of probe.
The world of cinema is replete with lots of such instances that have the potential to catch the imagination of the audience; the moot point is how many have the guts to bring their private lives into the public domain? Vidhu Vinod Chopra has taken the lead, let's hope others would follow.
