Recently, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his wish to share screen space with Aamir Khan but he diplomatically tagged a condition only if there's a great script and a director who can do justice to their characters.

SHAH RUKH KHAN, AAMIR KHAN, DILIP KUMAR and RAJ KAPOOR

Interestingly a similar situation ascended in the 60s when ‘Thespian’ Dilip Kumar and ‘Showman’ Raj Kapoor ruled Bollywood. Hence, Raj Kapoor decided to exploit the public demand and cajoled Dilip Kumar to work together. Dilip Kumar agreed.

Raj Kapoor even began work on his most ambitious film. The film was titled GHARONDA. The cast was finalized. It had the inimitable romantic lead Raj Kapoor and Nargis with Dilip Kumar adding a dash of glitter to the film. Media was also ablaze by the news.

The story was written by the eminent literary genius Inder Raj Anand. Raj Kapoor narrated the script to Dilip Kumar, who was impressed by the brilliant saga and gave his nod.  However, the excitement soon turned sour when Dilip Kumar bowled a googly at Raj Kapoor. He asked, “Raj, the story sounds great. But who will be the director?” On this Raj Kapoor, without hesitation replied, “Of course me.”

This left Dilip Kumar dumfounded because he wished to have a separate director but Raj Kapoor insisted on directing himself. Thus, the dream project of Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar coming together could not take off.

Years later Raj Kapoor recreated GHARONDA into SANGAM and roped in Rajendra Kumar in place of Dilip Kumar and Vyjantimala replaced Nargis. The movie was superhit and created box-office history.
