Alan Ritchson has been tapped for the title role of Jack Reacher in the upcoming Amazon TV drama series based on the book series.
Amazon Studios announced the news on Friday that it has cast the titular hero in its upcoming Jack Reacher TV series.
Based on Lee Childs’ international bestselling series of books, the action drama follows the titular character Jack Reacher, “a military veteran who lives a nomadic life as a freelance investigator and problem solver.”
Tom Cruise has previously featured in the 2012 Jack Reacher feature and the 2016 sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
Ritchson took to his Instagram account where he shared a screenshot of an article confirming the news.
“I guess my joke about not fitting in bathtubs a couple weeks ago really killed at @amazonprimevideo,” he captioned the post.
“This should be fun. #JackReacher @amazon @skydance.”
The first season of the Jack Reacher series, written, exec produced and showrun by Nick Santora, is based on the first Jack Reacher book, 1997’s The Killing Floor which is set in Georgia.
Nick Santora, who used to write and produce Prison Break has been attached to write and serve as showrunner for the show.
In addition to Santora, who is under an overall deal at Skydance TV, Child will be executive producing the Amazon show along with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in the 2012 feature film.
Amazon has not yet announced a release date for Jack Reacher.
