Jennifer Lawrence brings to her craft a joie-de-vivre unequalled. From Hunger Games to the Silver Linings Playbook, she has always aimed to nail her characters to perfection and now is back to win our hearts again.

The supremely talented Jennifer Lawrence will now be seen playing a doctoral student in astronomy named Kate Diabiasky – the ‘ultimate truth-teller’ alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep and Timothee Chalamet in Netflix’s satirical science fiction film Don’t Look Up.

Lawrence repeatedly consulted Dr. Amy Mainzer in order to get into the skin of her character. While talking about her experience of playing her character and what incited her interest in the script, she said, “It’s pretty rare to read a script that’s just an absolute slam dunk. I just flipped through it and was like, when do we start? Let’s go. I’ve always wanted to work with Adam. He’s the perfect person to be able to tell a story like this; to bring humor and satire to such a troubling and honest problem, really the biggest problem facing humanity. It’s a job that only he could’ve pulled off. Kate’s a truth teller. So when she tries to tell this news to the rest of the world and is met with resistance, or just complete and utter disbelief, it’s really upsetting. You can really see the way she gets a hard look at life in the public and on social media.”

Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!
