Summer time or the summer season conjures up the image of travel, and over the course of time the travel during summers has gravitated to being worth its value only if it is an overseas tour. But how many of us are fortunate to savor it? But fret not, the platform of OTT, provides an eclectic opportunity to travel to different corners of the world and enjoy the ambience of that country without the hassles of visa, passports, language etc.
One could argue that it is no big deal! Cinema per se is also providing the opportunity to globe trot virtually. Well, the difference lies in the fact that through OTT one is getting an eclectic flavor of exciting content from different countries around the world. Garnering eyeballs around the world and also in the country is one such show offered by Netflix- OSMOSIS, its series of international originals made in French, gives us an opportunity to savor the French flavor, geographically as well as culturally albeit through OTT. Can a cinematic experience compete with this offering?
Perhaps not, as the cinema has to package the content within a defined time span that would rarely be for more than two hours, while through OTT one can continue to soak the ambience of the overseas location for minimum 10 hours. It indeed is exciting as the exposure to international content would for sure generate demand from the audience to provide same standards of content in Hindi as well!
Netflix is strategically positioning itself as the one point source for international content and this journey started way back in 2015 with the Spanish series- Club de Cuervos. NARCOS the riveting saga around narcotics and the cherry on the cake was Le Casa de Papel (Money Heist) which was universal hit all across the globe.
OTT provides an opportunity for the televisions serials of the yesteryears to be recast as web series with modern flavor-REMAKE- so to say as it happened in the case of Le Casa de Papel (Money Heist), which was adopted from a television serial of yore.
The USP of this non-English language lies in its ability to pull the punches and does not bat an eyelid to venture into the realm of controversies and this is what makes the spectators sit and lap it up. Set against the backdrop of hitherto unseen locations, OTT of non-English is going to change the paradigms of content viewing for sure.
