Taking the digital revolution to a new high, the global streaming giant Netflix has added more muscle to its Indian arm by announcing these 10 original films spanning genres that involves Bollywood A–list artistes and technicians.
Beginning with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, which will produce CLASS OF 83 to be helmed by writer director Atul Sabharwal (AURANGZEB). The movie revolves around a righteous policeman and his complexities. Apart from CLASS OF 83, Red Chillies will also honour its previous commitment to produce the spy thriller series BARD OF BLOOD for Netflix.
In a very interesting development, GHOST STORIES will see the rare reunion of Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap after LUST STORIES. Ronnie Screwvala’s banner RSVP will produce GHOST STORIES.
KHOSLA KA GHOSLA!, OYE LUCKY! LUCKY OYE! fame Dibakar Banerjee will also be directing and producing a movie by the name FREEDOM, Netflix has been quoted calling it as “the story of an Indian family interwoven with the personal, ideological and sexual history of India and how desire plays a common role in each.”
Karan Johar's digital wing Dharmatic will produce GUILTY, directed by Ruchi Narain, which is said to be a journey of truth and discovery when a small town girl accuses the college heartthrob of rape.
Farah Khan will produce MRS. SERIAL KILLER to be directed by his husband Shirish Kunder.
The writer of Mira Nair directed gems like SALAAM BOMBAY will direct YEH BALLET – a story of two Mumbai boys from poor families who discover ballet as their weapon to fight their challenges. Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films will produce YEH BALLET.
KHOOBSURAT and VEERE DI WEDDING fame Shashanka Ghosh will collaborate with Samit Basu to direct a unique psychological thriller HOUSE ARREST, which revolves around a man who locks himself at home.
Sudhir Mishra will adapt Manu Joseph's book ‘Serious Men’ into a movie. It’s the story of a conman slum dweller.
Then there is a story on female infanticide – KAALI KHUHI to be directed by Terrie Samundra and produced by Manomay Motion Pictures.
A story of dreams and delusions – MASKA will be helmed by Neeraj Udhwani and produced by Mutant Films.
Netflix's previously announced titles MUSIC TEACHER, COBALT BLUE, CHOPSTICKS, UPSTARTS AND BULBUL, are scheduled to stream worldwide by the end of 2020.
