The story of GHOOMKETU
Ghoomketu (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) an aspiring writer from Mahona in UP, gets a special guide, called “How to be a Bollywood writer in 30 days” from the editor of a local publication (played by Bijendra Kala).
Ghoomketu flees to Mumbai to try his luck while Ghoomketu’s family – headed by Dadda (Raghuvir Yadav), Santo Bua (Ila Arun), Guddan Chaha (Swanand Kirkire) apply political pressure to get him back while wife Janki Devi (Ragini Khanna) turns slim from plum in the depression sadness due to his absence. Badlani (Anurag Kashyap) a corrupt cop is assigned the case. What happens next?
Ghoomketu movie review
Pushpendra Nath Misra gives a harmless desi quirky take of life from life. A weird tribute to Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne – the Indian television series directed by Prakash Jha and written by Manohar Shyam Joshi featuring Raghubir Yadav.
Laced with sly and quirky moments taken straight from life Ghoomketu inspired from the word Dhoomketu (comet). A story of a potential long hair star (another word for a comet aka Dhoomketu) coming back to his roots has its characterizations and situations right at Ghoomketu’s household.
The meta of Nawazuddin Siddiqui having long hair is perfect and he is outstanding in an out and out entertaining role.
The problem arises when the story refuses to move after a point and goes clueless. The ‘filmy’ humour fails to generate the desired impact.
However the cameos by Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha, Chitrangada Singh, Nikkhil Advani and Lauren Gottlieb try to fill the vacuum created by the flaws.
But it’s the towering presence of none other than the magnificent Mr. Bachchan that stands tall in these cameos.
Apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brilliance, Raghuvir Yadav as Dadda is class apart. Ila Arun is completely natural and spontaneous. Swanand Kirkire has his moments.
Other actors like Ragini Khanna, Anurag Kashyap and Deepika Amin chip in with good support. Special mention is reserved for Bijendra Kala.
GHOOMKETU has finally got a release. Having Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead and having Amitabh Bachchan spinning a surprise with cameos by Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha, Chitrangada Singh etc.
This quirky desi tale of life is a decent one time watch. Do catch this ‘star’ on Zee5.
