Mirzapur Season 2 story
Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) is back to avenge the merciless killing of his wife Sweety and his brother Bablu. But he is not alone this time. In his war against Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) and his son Munna (Divyendu Sharma), Guddu’s sister Dimpy (Harshita Gaur) and Golu (Gajgamini Gupta) are there to support him.
Mirzapur 2 Review
Exploiting the Hindi hinterland exotica with the same guns, goons and gaalis, this revenge is served on an intense thaali. It’s a ‘bloody’ gritty spread with no spoon of mercy offered. Creator Puneet Krishna and the director duo Gurmmeet Singh & Mihir Desai add more heat and spice of shock values which are at many times unnecessary resulting in a quick relief of some ‘sweet’ balance of integrity and morality which is absent.
Making this a revenge served with great intensity but no morality and balance of hope.
The fans of season 1 will root for Guddu and will find things to cheer but the terrific impact and the wonderful balance created by Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit is surely missing. In my humble opinion, Mirzapur 2 would have been better if Guddu got eliminated in the wedding during the last season and in season 2 Bablu is under pressure to avenge his brother’s death. The struggle of Bablu to find his conscience and mend his ways and his conflict with his father – a la Shakti style starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dilp Kumar could have been better.
Anyways, the technical expertise like Sanjay Kapoor’s master camerawork lifts this tested, trusted but tired revenge saga which gets highly predictable as well.
The list of refined actors tries to make this average revenge saga watchable at least for the fans of season 1.
Pankaj Tripathi excels once again. Ali Fazal is fine but repetitive. Divyendu Sharma gets the best deal and he just explodes. Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Anjum Sharma, Rajesh Tailang and veteran Kulbhushan Kharbanda add solid support.
Vijay Varma and Liliput spring a surprise.
On the women front, Rasika Dugal leads the way with Sheeba Chaddha, Harshita Gaur and Shweta Tripathi joining the force and winning everyone’s hearts.
Mirzapur 2 is revenge that is intense right from the first frame to the last but it fails to give the proper justice to season 1, which blasted its way and threatened the ‘Sacred Games’ of Netflix. The follow up finds both the character and the franchise looking a bit tired and exhausted in its enthusiasm to be intense and gritty every time in the plot at the cost of morality and proper balance in their characters.
