Richa Chadha: Even non-outsiders have to struggle

It's not easy to reach here (Bollywood). One has to struggle. Many of my friends have been struggling hard, though I am comparatively lucky. After 9 years of struggle, I am where, where I wanted to be. Richa Chadha: Even non-outsiders have to struggle

After going almost unnoticed in OYE LUCKY LUCKY OYE, she made her mark with films like GANGS OF WASSEYPUR, FUKREY and GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA (although a short role).

And now she is making waves with MASAAN that already won positive reviews and awards at Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category.

After a struggle of around nine years Richa is happy to have carved her own niche. She says everyone has their own share of struggles and she is no exception.

“It’s not easy to reach here (Bollywood). One has to struggle. Many of my friends have been struggling hard, though I am comparatively lucky. After 9 years of struggle, I am where, where I wanted to be.

I am doing what I like. Even non-outsiders have to struggle. So I am no exception. But what gives me a high is the fact that I have done it on my own merit,” she says.

It seems playing small-town girl or village belle comes easy to her as most of her films including the recent one MASAAN witnessed Richa portraying such roles.

When we brought it to her notice, Richa said, “I have done many types of roles and films but unfortunately some films released on time, some came out, while some didn’t.

What do I do if the film doesn’t come out?” But probe her if she is getting stereotyped with it and she says, “The problem is with the industry which has the habit of stereotyping.”

Unlike her other characters which were loud, outspoken, and unapologetic, in MASAAN Richa plays reticent yet a strong girl, who goes through tough times!
