Trump's site 'Truth Social' broke software rules: Report

San Francisco, Oct 23 (IANS) Former US President Donald Trump’s new social network violated a free and open-source software licensing agreement by ripping off decentralised social network Mastodon, said the Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC).

According to The Verge, the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) has 30 days to comply with the terms of the license before its access is terminated — forcing it to rebuild the platform or face legal action.

TMTG launched a special purpose acquisition company fundraising effort with promises to build a sweeping media empire, the report said.

Its only product so far is a social network called Truth Social that appears strongly to be forked from Mastodon, it added.

While anyone can freely reuse Mastodon’s code (and groups like right-wing social network Gab have already done so), they still have to comply with the Affero General Public License (or AGPLv3) that governs that code and its conditions include offering their source code to all users.

Truth Social doesn’t comply with that license and, in fact, refers to its service as “proprietary”, the report said.

Its developers apparently attempted to scrub references that would make the Mastodon connection clear — at one point listing a “sighting” of the Mastodon logo as a bug — but included direct references to Mastodon in the site’s underlying HTML alongside obvious visual similarities.

TMTG’s strategy has not sat well with the SFC, an organisation that enforces free and open-source software licenses.

Truth Social hasn’t officially launched. But users could access a test version of the platform, where many of them created prank accounts that flooded the service with false company announcements and even fake Donald Trump posts. (The platform has since been replaced by a waitlist.)

The SFC demands that TMTG offer all these users access to the Truth Social source code.

T20 WC: Lop-sided record against India a thing of the past, says Azam

Dubai, Oct 23 (IANS) Pakistan skipper Babar Azam announced a 12-man shortlist, out of which 11 will feature in the team’s opening match of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup against India here on Sunday. The players who missed out on the 12-man shortlist include Mohammad Wasim Jr, Mohammad Nawaz and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

“We have decided the 12 men who could be a part of the side for tomorrow. Myself, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. These are our 12-man side and we will announce our playing eleven tomorrow,” said Azam in the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

Speaking about the preparation ahead of the match against India, he said, “Our preparation has been going very well. We got a lot of confidence from the camp and the matches we played there. The boys are making an effort, which gives a lot of motivation as a captain. We will try to play our best cricket on the given day and give our best.”

Azam insisted that the lop-sided 0-5 record in men’s T20 World Cup against India is a thing of the past. “To be honest, what has passed is beyond us. We want to use our ability and confidence on the day of the match so that we can get a better result. Records are meant to be broken.”

Azam mentioned that their mantra ahead of the match against India is to keep things simple and be relaxed. “According to me, we have played a lot of events like Champions Trophy and 50-over World Cup. The more we keep things simple, be relaxed and stick to the basics, the more helpful it will be for us.

“We have spoken to all players about being relaxed, preparation being in our hands and giving our 100% to play our best cricket on the day.

“India and Pakistan are always high-intensity matches. You cannot afford to be relaxed at any given point of time. You have to do well in all three departments of the game — batting, bowling as well as fielding. So, we need to perform well in all three departments of the game to win the match. We tried different things in the warm-up games. As a team, I have full confidence on all of them and hopefully, we can do well.”

Azam concluded by saying that Prime Minister Imran Khan had shared his experience of winning the 1992 World Cup with the team before the side left for the mega event.

“Before coming here, we had a meeting with him. He shared his experiences of the mindset he had while winning the 1992 Cricket World Cup. He also spoke about the body language of him and the team that time.”

Harssh A Singh on playing hawaldar in comedy series 'Bharat Nagar Dairies'

Mumbai, Oct 23 (IANS) Actor Harssh A Singh who is known for his performances in ‘Thappad’, ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Bandish Bandits’, has talked about working in the comedy series ‘Bharat Nagar Dairies’.

Speaking about it, Harssh said: “Bharat Nagar Dairies’ is a life affirming sweet comedy series about the lives of four cops in a small town police station called Bharat Nagar Thana. These four cops have a close loving relationship although they are poles apart in terms of how they think and operate.”

Harssh opened up about playing a constable in the show.

He says: “I play Hanuman Dahiya’ – a hawaldar, who’s grouchy, grumpy and scary on the outside but a gentle giant on the inside. He may disagree and pass sarcastic comments about his colleagues, but he loves them and would give up his life for them.”

The series also stars Prakhar Singh, Sharvari Deshpande and Vishal Yadav.

The actor, who has played the prominent role of Dr Farookh Romani in ‘Mumbai Diaries’, shared an important point about playing a character from a small town.

“Mostly I get cast in urban roles, people find it a bit hard to visualise me in small town roles, which is surprising because I am from Ludhiana and I spent my entire childhood in a small town, so was thrilled to be playing a small town uneducated Haryanvi hawaldar.”

He adds about the preparation work that involved watching a number of videos and working on the language.

“I saw tons of videos of Haryanvi cops. Worked on the accent. The writer Sohit Khanna was telling me that the character was written for a dark, 6 feet tall fat man, but they loved my audition,” he said.

The show is streaming on a YouTube channel.

Web Series Review | Sex, Love & Goop: More educative than exploitative

What most people do not understand is that relationships and sex are actually a skill set. And there is a difference between what makes a relationship good and what makes sex good.

This is what you’ll learn after watching this six-episode series whose run-time ranges from 30-40 minutes. Yes, the show does focus on carnal pleasures as this series follows six slightly apprehensive yet impressively willing real-life couples who, with the help of experts, learn about how to enhance their relationships and explore their sexuality together.

In the first episode, set in an exotic retreat-like space, we meet the couples seated in front of Gywneth Paltrow and relationship expert Michaela Boehm telling us how they feel and what to expect from the show. In the opening montage, Paltrow emphasises, “We are having sex, it is a show about sex, and we are gonna talk about sex.”

And true enough, under the watchful eyes of the experts assigned to each couple, we have the couples telling us of how they are struggling with their mediocre or non-existent sex lives, then stripping down to their bare minimum, exploring their bodies through the various exercises that are prescribed to them.

The experts explain to us about the types of people who make up the universe. The Sensual are those who get turned on by all their senses (smell, taste, sight, touch) being ignited. The Sexual are those who get turned on by what they think is sex in their culture. So, for them, intercourse, orgasms, penetration, genitals, nudity are all that matter.

The Kinky are those who get turned on by whatever is taboo. So, whatever is taboo to the person becomes the turn-on and that could be psychological, or it could be more sensation-based. And the Shapeshifters are those who get turned on by all of it. So, for them, it is the entire smorgasbord as nothing is ever too much.

As the episodes roll on, you feel like a voyeur watching the experts analyse the couples who work through pleasurable sex and deeper intimacy. It is like watching couples attend sex therapy where dynamics unfold, and you see partners who appear broken, gradually bond and feel connected.

What is interesting about the series is that each episode is relatable. It makes you realise that this is the need of the hour if you want to enjoy a happy relationship with your partner. Overall, the series is quirky, provocative, educative, and far more informative than exploitative.

Bill Murray hails 'shared humanity' of working with Wes Anderson

Los Angeles, Oct 23 (IANS) Hollywood actor Bill Murray and Filmmaker Wes Anderson have worked together on numerous movies over the years, including ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’, and the actor admits to loving the experience of collaborating with the acclaimed director.

He said, “I keep coming back to the shared humanity of it. If we can live together, we can work together. If we’re living together as humans, politely with consideration, then (in) your acting there is going to be more magnetism, there’s going to be more exchange of emotion and intelligence.”

Murray actually thinks that the likes of Anderson, Sofia Coppola and Jim Jarmusch have helped to validate his career, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The veteran actor, who previously shot ‘Lost in Translation’ with Sofia Coppola and ‘Broken Flowers’ with Jarmusch, admitted that they’ve had a huge impact on his time in the movie business.

Bill told ‘The i’ newspaper, “They’ve sort of validated my career in a way, the fact that these great directors keep calling me up every once in a while.”

“Because these three people call me up, I worry even less than ever before that someone’s gonna call me up. I don’t have to go looking for work anyway. I mean if you did nine movies with Wes Anderson people will call that a career.”

Murray has worked with Anderson more than any other actor. However, he insisted that other actors never seek his advice before working with the Director.

He said, “I think they think it’s like a secret club or something like that. But certainly a lot of people want to be in it.”

Twitter adds one-click 'Revue newsletter' signup buttons to tweets

San Francisco, Oct 23 (IANS) Micro-blogging site Twitter is rolling out a way for people to sign up to ‘Revue newsletters’ directly from tweets.

According to Engadget, when someone shares their Revue newsletter, the tweet will include a subscribe button.

If someone clicks a link to a specific newsletter issue, they will see an option to subscribe when they return to their Twitter feed.

The feature is live on the web now, and it is coming to iOS and Android soon.

In addition, if your Twitter account is linked to an email address, you can sign up to receive newsletter updates with a single click. You will not need to confirm your subscription through your email inbox, the report said.

The update should make it easier for people to convert Twitter followers into newsletter subscribers.

It is a big advantage for Revue over the likes of Substack and other newsletter services since writers on those platforms have to guide potential subscribers through a slightly longer signup process, the report added.

Twitter recently added Revue newsletter signup buttons to profiles on the web, iOS and Android. The company bought Revue in January as the newsletter ecosystem continued to pick up steam.

Clasico not decisive, but Koeman needs win to avoid questions over future

Madrid, Oct 23 (IANS) FC Barcelona entertain Real Madrid in the first of at least three meetings between the two clubs this season when the two teams meet in the Camp Nou on Sunday afternoon.

Spain’s traditional rivals will play each other again in the semifinals of the Spanish Supercup in January, as well as in the second league game at the end of March, but this game will probably set the tone for the coming months.

Barca go into the match after a 3-1 win at home to Valencia and a vital 1-0 victory against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday night to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

However, neither of the displays were particularly convincing and a heavy defeat to Madrid would mean coach Ronald Koeman’s job remains under threat.

Koeman will be without injured Ronald Araujo, arguably his best defender at the moment, while young midfielder Pedri is also sidelined with a knee injury and left back Jordi Alba will need a late test on an ankle injury he picked up in midweek, Xinhua reports. Araujo’s injury will see Eric Garcia play in defense, while 17-year-old Gavi will probably continue in midfield alongside Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong, while Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay will lead the Barca attack.

Fati signed a new contract until 2027 on Friday and the 18-year-old will carry many of Barca’s hopes on his young shoulders.

Real Madrid travel to Barcelona after a 5-0 win away to Shakhtar Donetsk, which ended a worrying run of form for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and the Italian would again be under the stoplight if his side lose in the Camp Nou.

Ancelotti has good news on the injury front, with Eden Hazard and Dani Carvajal near returning to full fitness, although he is unlikely to risk either of the injury prone duo.

Ferland Mendy’s return at left back gives the defense better balance, while Ancelotti will return to his experienced trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric in midfield, with Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavigna able to provide energy from the bench.

Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr will carry Real Madrid’s attacking hopes, with the in-form duo posing a huge threat to a Barca defense that has failed to convince at times.

Although there are just two points between the two teams and a game in matchday 10 of La Liga is not decisive, there is a feeling this game will have a big influence on the coming weeks and it is vital for Barca’s stabilty to avoid defeat.
